Hula Is Not the Same Without Hawaiian
Hawaiians Culture is kept alive and strong through its `Ōlelo Hawai`i - Hawaiian language.
Ka `Aha Hula `O Halauaola 2018 - World Hula Conference
Some members of Ha`aheo O Hawai`i traveled to Hilo, Hawai`i to attend Ka `Aha Hula `O Halauaola. This event happens only every four years and brings hula practitioners from around the world to the land of hula's birth: Hawai`i. It is imperative to "go to the source" of hula - Hawai`i - to truly understand the deep significance of the hula.
The mele (song) Kaulana Na Pua was written in 1893 by Ellen Keho'ohiwoakalani Wright Pendergast in opposition to the illegal overthrow of Queen Liliu`okalani and the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1892 and the subsquent annexation of Hawai'i to the United States. Originally this mele was titled Mele ʻAi Pōhaku (The Stone Eating Song) and was also known as Mele Aloha ʻĀina.

Although members of Ha`aheo O Hawai`i make many of their hula outfits, some of our beautiful hula pa`u (skirts) were made by the friendly folks at Aloha Outlet in Hawai`i.
The internet has made Hawaiian culture information accessible to the world. It used to be that the only way to get this information was to travel to Hawaii and visit the Bishop Museum, University of Hawai`i or other trusted respositories of Hawaiian knowledge or personally speak to Hawaiian cultural (loea) experts.
Be aware, however, that there is also mis-information about Hawaiian culture on the internet.
